Nowadays, the first mission of a zoo is to care for the animals that live in it. The second mission is to educate others about wildlife and how we can do better to protect it.

 

The idea of the Jackson Zoo zoo started in 1919, and a LOT has happened since then. ​Over the past 100 years, zoos all over the world have adjusted their approach to animal care and conservation as humans learn more about wildlife.​​

From rehabilitating local birds of prey, finding new ways to recycle or re-use items, or sending information or funds to global research projects, the JZ Animal Care staff works to better protect wildlife and our environment.
