KEEPER NOTE American Flamingo

“Why is that Flamingo over there by herself?”

Flamingos are beautiful birds with long lifespans. Currently, many of our pink residents are well into their old age… we even have one lady that is nearing 42 years old!

Sometimes you can see her sitting and enjoying a quiet moment by herself, which is perfectly fine. Since flamingos are very social birds, it can often cause more harm than good by removing them from the flock. Therefore animal care staff find it beneficial to the let the animals make their own decisions on when to be social, and when to socially distance.

The JZ Keepers check on their animals throughout the day, and vet staff are monitoring the birds closely.
